Day 61 - Soldier Course

The below DPC brick work continued today, with most of the work both on the roof and the bricks going on at the back of the house. You can see the nice soldier course detail below the back door and the first of the complete sections of slate work - scaffold climbing required!

Day 60 - Bricks & Windmills

The brick work has begun today and the brickies have started to define the corners of the below DPC courses. The slates have also arrived and are going up on the roof - all at the back of the house though so I can't get a picture from the ground. I'll have to climb the scaffold for you later in the week and get a shot.

We went for a walk on the Fen last night too and, although all of the wildlife was in hiding, I got some good pictures of the Wicken windmill on the way back.

The ground floor windows are now in and the roofing effort continues.

I've also had confirmation that slates will be arriving on Monday/Tuesday next week!

Day 57 - Windows and Roofing Felt

Progress has been slower than expected this week due to bad weather. You can see from the pictures just how wet its been.

Despite this though there has been a lot going on. The sand and cement for the brick layers has been delivered, the roofers have made a start on the felt and batton work on the roof and, best of all, the first of the sash windows have been delivered!

A groundworks crew also arrived to drop the curb on the entrance to Number 49 which will allow the new owner of the bungalow to put in their own driveway and allow us to complete the fence to ours.

The roofers are back for the rest of the week to complete the felt work and Ben and his brick layer team will be working hard to get started despite the wet ground conditions.

Day 55 - Bricks!

The first delivery of bricks is now onsite, albeit blocking access to everything else!

The roofers have begun to get everything organised, and the stone sills arrived on Wednesday - I had to offload them all by hand. Luckily they only weigh 1.3 tonnes...

I'm going to try to recover some of the time lost from the ground works by having the roofers and bricklayers work on site together. It should be all systems go next week.

Day 54 - Timber Frame Complete

The timber frame work is now complete!

The first fix carpentry has already begun, with the soffit boards on the perimiter of the roof on and the noggins for the kitchen and utility room in place to hold appliances and furniture to the wall.

The roofers start tomorrow!

Day 53 - Roof Complete

The carpenters finished up work on the roof today and will be finishing off on Tuesday, with a frame inspection from Potton booked for Wednesday.

The axed arch lintel detailing arrived today too. These are pre-made from bricks from my main brick order to save time.

There's some bad weather on the way in for Sunday and Monday so I'll be down here on Monday morning to sweep the first floor deck down and keep the water off it as best I can.
