Autumn on its way

It's been a busy summer of planting, weeding and clearing up apples. So many apples! The garden is really starting to blossom now, I can only imagine how good it will look next year once everything really starts to bed in.

Martha has taken up the job of photographer for this post, hence the shot of the devilishly handsome man attempting to make cider.

Gates on, planting complete!

After a herculean effort with the Hammerite all of the gates are now up and looking good, and we've pretty much completed the planting for the summer.

Martha has had me furiously digging, moving and watering to complete her master plan. In return for all my manual labour she has inherited the job of Chief Weeder, a task which she seems to relish as a two-hour endurance training session.

All we need now is some more sun and its BBQ time!

If only I can find a recipe for BBQ mutant courgette...

                

Gravel pit

I have spent the morning in the sunshine, alas working quite hard!

I decided to tackle the gravel area in the garden myself rather than enlisting the help of Titch and Jack. I ordered some more kerb stones from Bannold and tonne of 10mm gravel. Armed with a few bags of cement I attacked it head on this morning and have just finished - not bad, but thirsty work!

The only thing left is to move some more of the pots over to this area (I'll let Martha decide on that this weekend) and the stone bench which is beyond even my hefting abilities!

      

So many plants!

Lots has happened in the month and a half since my last post.

We've cornered the local garden centre market and bought all their stock which the garden has completely devoured. Everything is pretty much in now and we're onto sowing annuals and planting out veges that have been grown from seed inside - I've even been given special permission to publish an action shot of the lady in charge of it all - she must be pleased!

Meanwhile I've been busy with the construction projects in and around the garden. I've built the pergola for which I managed to source some green oak at a reasonable price so it looks wonderful in its natural finish, and I roped in Mr Tomlinson to help me install some armored cable and a timer circuit for the new driveway lights. Now you can leave our house at night without the fun of possibly hitting a tree.

I'm in the process of sourcing a supplier for the iron railings, so they'll be next to go on, then its hopefully light duties with only one thing left to do.

P.S. If anyone sees any rain, can you send it our way? Whilst I find watering duty quite relaxing, I think I may have hit the "watering wall"!
